Alarm Systems Agent Certification Update

Effective January 1st 1997, all field personnel including State Registered Master Electricians through the newest helpers that sell, install, maintain, alter, or repair any Burglar or Fire Alarm system in the State will have to successfully complete a minimum of 12 hours of training. This training shall include basic alarm system electronics in addition to related training including CCTV and access control.

Other requirements:

Minimum 18 years of age or has evidence of a court-approved declaration of emancipation.
A fingerprint and criminal background check by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Has not been committed for controlled substance abuse or been found guilty of a crime under chapter 893 or a similar law relating to controlled substances in any other state within the 3-year period immediately preceding the date of application for employment, or the effective date of this act for current employees.

Lewis Electric will have fully complied with this requirement by the March 1st deadline.

Effective this Legislative season this has since been changed to apply only to Burglar Alarm contractors and installers. (The original intent of the first law)
